Reflecting on Bartók: Lunchtime concert and workshop

Organised by the Liszt Academy of Music in collaboration with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
in partnership with the Hungarian Cultural Centre London

Bartok16The joint concert of the students of the Liszt Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama is part of the event series Bartók 135 – a year-long programme series launched in 2016 by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in collaboration with the Liszt Academy of Music and their international partner academies – celebrating the life work of Béla Bartók with workshops, masterclasses and concerts all over the world.

In London, the partner institute of the Liszt Academy has been the Guildhall School and the programme of this particular collaboration focuses on Bartók's piano pieces and their influence on contemporary compositions: two composition students of each academies - Eden Lonsdale and Alexander Hall on the Guildhall School of Music and Drama's part and Ádám Brandenburg and Bálint Laczkó from the Liszt Academy – have written pieces inspired by Bartók's Improvisations.
The original Bartók pieces and the newly composed works will be performed by the Hungarian pianist Domonkos Csabay and Guildhall pianists Jonathan Ferrucci, Robert Allan and Ben Smith.
