Hungarian Lit Night: Steep Path

The Hungarian Cultural Centre invites you to an evening of outstanding Hungarian poetry at the launch of Steep Path an anthology of translated classical and contemporary poems.

Steep Path is a selection from the hundreds of poetry translations made by Clive Wilmer and George Gömöri, and includes seventy unforgettable poems by outstanding poets.

At this special evening actress Pamela Miles will read some of the translated works, which will be followed by a talk with the editors and a drinks reception.

George Gömöri has been living in England since 1956 when he had to leave Hungary due to his role in the Hungarian Revolution. A poet and translator, he has published over 60 books, including his latest collection of his translated poems into English, 'Polishing October' (2013).
Clive Wilmer, who selected this anthology, is himself an award-winning poet, recipient last year's Janus Pannonius Translation Prize.
Pamela Miles is an actress having worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre and the Bristol Old Vic. Her many film credits include 'A Fish Called Wanda' and her numerous  TV appearances include parts in 'Midsummer Murders' and 'Inspector Morse'.
